Though an Advaitin, he worked to harmonize Shaivism and Vaishnavism, reducing sectarian conflicts. A great devotee of Lord Shiva, and composed many hymns in praise of Shiva.
Appayya Dikshitar (1520–1593) was one of the greatest scholars and philosophers of India, especially known for his contributions to Advaita Vedanta and Shaivism. He lived during the 16th century in South India and was a towering intellectual figure of his time.
